Macau had more than 3 million visitors in February

Macau had just over 3.29 million visitors in February, nearly 1.4 million of them in eight days of the Chinese New Year holiday. The tally for February was 92.9% in the same month in 2019 (pre-pandemic trading year), when the Lunar New Year festival was also held in February.

The number of arrivals in February 2024 increased by 106.7% year-on-year. The number of same-day visitors stood at about 1.87 million, or 56.7% of the total. The remaining about 1.43 million people stayed up all night, according to data released by the Macau Bureau of Statistics on Wednesday.

China's Lunar New Year holiday, often referred to as one of the "golden weeks" in the city's annual calendar in the gaming and hospitality sector, began on February 10 this year compared to January 22, 2023, and February 5, 2019.

Census service data showed the same year-on-year increase of visitors in Macau in February was 148.9%, compared with 69.1% for night visitors.

The average length of stay for all visitors in February was 1.1 days, a slight decrease of 0.2 days from a year earlier, the Census Bureau said. This was mainly due to Macau having a higher percentage of same-day visitors during the reporting period.

The average length of stay in February was 2.2 days. The top three sauce markets visited by these travelers were mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Of the 3.29 million visitors Macau arrived in February, nearly 2.45 million, or 74.4 percent, came from mainland China. Guangdong Province (1.24 million), Zhejiang Province (129,884), Jiangsu Province (105,145), and Shanghai City (103,085) were considered the most important mainland supply markets.

There were 176,192 international visitors in February, or 5.3 percent of the total. The three most visited source markets were Korea (41,844), the Philippines (39,837), and Indonesia (12,471).

Macau's total visitor arrivals in the first two months of the year stood at 6.16 million, up 105.8% year-on-year. The tally represents 88.3% in the same period in 2019, when Macau had 6.97 million.
